Austin Pride Parade and Festival September 10, 2011 Austin Pride Run - 5K: 8::00 am (Downtown) Parade: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (Downtown) Festival: 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm (Fiesta Gardens)
The Austin Pride Festival has moved from its traditional June setting to September. Highlights include a 5K run and Pride Parade downtown in the morning, followed by the official festival held at Fiesta Gardens during the afternoon. If you're a runner (or walker), be sure to check out the Austin Pride Run 5K, which bills itself as "the most accepting and most fun 5K in Texas." According to the website: "We welcome straight, gay, lesbian, questioning, transgenders; anyone who wants to experience Austin’s unique vibe and have fun in the sun." The Austin Pride Festival is a fun event for those who, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, want to come out (so to speak) and either celebrate their pride or show their support. And that the event is in Austin is especially meaningful since Austin was gay-friendly and supportive long before it became commonplace to be so.
