5K Race: June 5, 2010 (9:00 am)
The Austin Pride Festival runs June 3-6, 2010 (Thursday thru Sunday). Highlights include two parades on June 5 (Saturday), a 5K run through the streets of downtown Austin, and numerous art, artisan, and food vendors.
There's both a Family Parade including kids and pets in the afternoon and a Pride Parade in the evening. Parade routes and entry information is available on the Austin Pride website.
If you're a runner (or walker), be sure to check out the Austin Pride Run 5K, which bills itself as "the most accepting and most fun 5K in Texas." According to the website: "We welcome straight, gay, lesbian, questioning, transgenders; anyone who wants to experience Austin’s unique vibe and have fun in the sun."
The Austin Pride Festival is a fun event for those who, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, want to come out (so to speak) and either celebrate their pride or show their support.
And that the event is in Austin is especially meaningful since Austin was gay-friendly and supportive long before it became commonplace to be so.
