You don't get much more family friendly than a two day country fair centered around dachsund racing.
Organized by the Lions Club of Buda (just south of Austin and pronounced with a long U sound - think beauty, not Buddha), this popular spring festival first began in 1998.
The event has grown so popular in recent years that the Buda Wiener Dog Races now attract around 400 racers each year (that's 1600 very short legs).
Although Buda claims the trademarked status of "Wiener Dog Capital of Texas," a significant number of the dogs are out of towners (and out of staters).
Everyone has a great time. In addition to the races, there are also awards for best dressed weiner dog as well as a pet parade.
The Buda Country Fair portion of the annual event includes both barbecue cook-offs and dessert bake-offs, not to mention ample arts and crafts booths along with ample food vendors.
