Austin's Chinese New Years Festival is held at the Chinatown Center in North Austin (on N. Lamar near Braker LN - see map below).

Chinatown Austin is a shopping center boasting nearly 30 businesses including some first rate restaurants and the Asian grocery, MT Supermarket. The Chinatown Center opened in the fall of 2006 and has been hosting Chinese New Years celebrations since 2007.

There's plenty to see and do (and eat). The martial arts demonstrations are always impressive, as are all the various dance performances, including the traditional lion and dragon dance.

Another cool aspect to the festival is its inclusiveness. It's not just a celebration of Chinese culture and the Chinese New Year. Aspects of Korean, Japanese, and Hawaiian cultures are also celebrated.

And finally, according to the Chinese Calendar:

2009 - Year of the Ox
2010 - Year of the Tiger
2011 - Year of the Rabbit
2012 - Year of the Dragon
2013 - Year of the Snake
2014 - Year of the Horse
2015 - Year of the Sheep
2016 - Year of the Monkey
2017 - Year of the Rooster
2018 - Year of the Dog
2019 - Year of the Pig
2020 - Year of the Rat
2021 - Year of the Ox
