Lots of hubcaps, lots of Elvis, and lots of little hand-carved wooden fish--you just don't get much more Authentic Austin than Chuy's.

Owners Mike Young and John Zapp opened the flagship location on Barton Springs RD in 1982, and it quickly grew into an Austin landmark, representative of and a contributing factor toward the city's laid back and quirky reputation.

The menu is Tex-Mex, with perhaps more of an emphasis on the Tex than the Mex. The food isn't my personal favorite, but the restaurant has a loyal following and it's another one of those places Austinites love to take their out of town visitors.
Prepare for a crowd and a wait, especially at the original Barton Springs location.
But if you have to wait for a table, what better place to wait than here? Be sure to check out (responsibly) the daily (week days) happy hour(s) from 4:00pm-7:00pm. The restaurant also sells a line of popular t-shirts.
Co-owner Mike Young and local radio station KLBJ co-founded the annual Children Giving to Children Christmas Parade and toy drive back in 1989. The parade is held each November and benefits Operation Blue Santa.
Since 1984, Chuy has sponsored an annual Hot to Trot 5K and Kid's K held in the spring. The event benefits the Special Olympics.
