The Cinco de Mayo Festival in Austin Texas was first celebrated in 2006. The festival is held at Fiesta Gardens and features Tejano and Conjunto music across two stages, a barbecue cook-off, and a "Show Ur Ride" car show.
Food vendors will include standard hamburger, etc. choices as well as traditional Mexican and Mexican-American fare.
Lawn chairs and two water bottles (0.5 liters) per person are allowed in.
Cinco de Mayo commemorates the May 5, 1862 battle between outnumbered Mexican forces and an invading French army. Following a fierce battle, the smaller Mexican army successfully forced the French to retreat.
