A really neat annual event since 1993, the Heritage Homes Tour in Austin is a terrific way to learn about Austin's past through the exploration of some of its historical homes.

Each year, there's a different theme and selection of homes to tour. In 2012, the focus will be on Austin's first official neighborhood, Judge's Hill, which was first established way back in the early 1850s.

This is one of my favorite neighborhoods, in the courthouse/ACC Rio Grande part of downtown.

The annual event is organized by the Heritage Society of Austin , which was founded in 1953. HSA's twin mission is to be an advocate for the architectural and historical preservation of the greater Austin area as well as to serve in an educational role and promote greater awareness and appreciation of the historical legacy of the area.
