KAMX - Mix 94.7

"The Best Mix of the 80s, 90s and Today"

KAMX 94.7 (Mix 94.7) Official Website

Stream Mix 94.7

A special message to KAMX listeners and fans: Please do not take the following review personally. Although I hate Mix 94.7 and find it to be one of worst radio stations in Austin, I do, however, believe in freedom of choice and speech on your behalf. Real Austin Texas is more than just my personal clubhouse - it's also your personal clubhouse, whether you're a local, a visitor, or some nostalgic Austin ex-patriot missing this city and wishing you could be here again. So I'm perfectly willing to link to 94.7 and extend the same courtesy as I have to the other stations listed on this site and link to the KAMX streaming URL in exchange for you allowing me to express my scorn without getting pissed off. We can still be friends - there's no need for either of us to be offended by each other's tastes.

OK - so here goes: KAMX, or Mix 94.7, arguably the lamest of all Austin radio stations, has been serving up wholesome mediocrity and polluting the Austin radio landscape longer than I care to remember.

Programming and Station Highlights (Lowlights?)

I don't want to write a full dissertation on the shortcomings of KAMX 94.7, but here's a quick overview of what's most painful about the station:

  • Worst Morning Show on Austin Radio: JB and Sandy - JB and Sandy (unfortunately, their contract doesn't reportedly expire until 2013) really epitomize the mediocrity of the station. Don't get me wrong, they're obviously professional broadcasters and have the skills to be on radio, it's just that it seems like a show for and by losers. The show can be best described as mundane and uninformed conversation you might overhear in a Walmart checkout line.
  • Wholesome Secular Programming - Although I don't find "wholesome" broadcasting on religious oriented radio stations any more appealing, at least it makes sense. But when you affix wholesome broadcasting to a secular, (and ostensibly adult alternative/contemporary) station, what you end up with seems a lot closer to children's programming at best, or just plain irrelevant and pathetic at worst.
  • Limited Playlist - I can't say definitively how few of the same songs that The Mix plays, but my theory is that it's close to 14. Please! Mambo #5 sucked ten years ago. Why must they keep playing it every hour!?!
  • Decidedly Uncool - Have you ever experienced hearing a song you really like getting played on an extremely lame radio station and then, suddenly, that song doesn't seem so cool anymore? Well, there you go - that's the kind of station Mix 94.7 is.

OK - I'm done now. No one should take any of the above personally. It's just radio, after all. Stream if you must, but stream proudly and defiantly.
