An Austin original since 2003, the Keep Austin Weird Festival and 5K is an afternoon of fun, quirkiness, live music, more quirkiness, great vendors, and, of course, more quirkiness.
The 5K race begins at 7pm, and the weirder your costume the better your chance at winning - the costume contest at least. Winning the race is secondary, if that. With numerous "weird" stops along the way, the 5K course is unofficially known as "the slowest 5K you'll ever run." After all, how many 5Ks allow for ice cream breaks?
Live music typically runs from 2pm until 10pm. Past performers have included the likes of Bob Schneider, Alejandro Escovedo, and Black Joe Lewis.
2011 Keep Austin Weird Festival live music lineup pending . . .
The 2010 music lineup included White Denim and the Paul Green School of Rock Kids Band.
