Programming and Station Highlights
- Don't let the National Public Radio affiliation fool you - KUT is a proven supporter of local Austin music and can hold its own against any of the other Austin radio stations. Be sure to check out the Texas Music Matters page for one of Austin's best online local music resources.
- The station's website is also a great source for local and issue-oriented news.
- Eklektikos - weekdays 9:00am to noon - hosted by John Aielli. I admit, the first time or two (or more) that I listened to John Aielli's show, I had a definite WTF reaction. He has a rather unusual style, to say the least. Thoughtful, reflective, extremely low-key, undaunted by the occasional moment or two of radio silence while he's spontaneously musing on a subject, and apparently willing and able to meander just about anywhere, Aielli is unlike any other DJ on any other Austin radio station (and possibly anywhere else for that matter).
But Aielli has been broadcasting full time for the station since 1970 and I eventually wised up and came to realize what a treasure he is. His generosity and support for local music can probably never be properly measured or repaid. He's a perfect example of what makes Austin not only a unique place to live, but also a great place to live.
