KVRX is UT Austin's student run station and is one of the cooler Austin radio stations.
As with all student run radio, there's a wide mix of programming, but that's especially the case here. The station places a big emphasis on new musio, on independent music, on local music, and on an extensive variety of musical genres played.
Admittedly, some broadcasts are more polished than others, but I do find it enjoyable and redemptive listening to younger people honing their craft and engaging the Austin community. Austin is a richer place because of it. If not always of the highest professional quality, it is at least fresh.
The station also shares radio frequency (91.7 fm) with KOOP Austin. KVRX broadcasts on 91.7 7pm-9am during the week and from 10pm-9am on weekends. But the station does broadcast 24 hours via online streaming radio.
Like its sister station, KOOP, it's impossible to generalize or sum up the KVRX listening experience.
