Old Pecan Street FestivalFall: September 25-26, 2010 Spring: May 2011 Saturday: 11am - 10pm Sunday: 11am - 8 pm Old Pecan Street (6th Street - between I-35 and Brazos ST) Admission - Free An Austin favorite since the late 1970s, the Pecan Street Festival reportedly attracts 300,000 attendees per weekend (there are two separate weekend festivals, one in the spring and one in the fall).
All in all, the event is a relaxing way to spend an hour or two. It's an ideal distraction if you're in the mood for a laid back stroll or if you enjoy browsing for unique gifts for yourself or others. If you're visiting Austin, or if you live in the suburbs, this is a great opportunity to spend some leisure time downtown and, while you're there, enjoy brunch or lunch at a downtown Austin restaurant within walking distance (and there are some good choices right there on 6th Street).
Austin Pecan Festival ParkingIf you're in need of parking, you might get lucky and find something streetside in the general area (street parking, for now at least, is free on weekends). But honestly, you're better off just bringing a few extra bucks and parking in a nearby paid lot or garage (don't be like me and park ten blocks away and then have to hike your way in).

During the festival, Austin's famous 6th Street (originally known as Pecan Street) is closed to traffic and replaced by several blocks of art, craft, gift, food, and other vendors along with tons of pedestrians. There's live music, and plenty of entertainment for the kids.
