The Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo, an Austin nonprofit, is held each year in March. The fair and rodeo runs for two weeks (16 days) and features ProRodeo events (Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association & Women’s Professional Rodeo Association), daily/nightly concerts, a livestock show, and the year’s largest Austin area carnival.
The STFR claims roots going back to 1938 with the Travis County Baby Beef Show held downtown and boasting all of 16 animals.
Today, the rodeo is the 5th largest indoor regular season ProRodeo in the world. The economic impact of the rodeo and fair is estimated to be in excess of $50 million. In 2009, the total event attendance was 300,000, including total Rodeo attendance of 66,000.
