Sam's Boat - Austin LocationOne of seven mostly Houston-based bars and seafood restaurants, Sam's Boat in Austin has gained a certain loyal following. And not a little notoriety.
I wouldn't go so far as to suggest that the place is like Long John Silver's with a liquor license, but there is a lot of fried food on the menu. It's more like if the Krusty Krab from SpongeBob SquarePants acquired a liquor license. [Actually, the restaurant lost its liquor license a few years back under the previous owners following a high profile drunk driving fatality.] In any case, alcohol is available once again. There's also live music, usually on Thursday and Saturday nights, but be sure to check their calendar of events to verify. In addition to the seafood, the menu also includes a selection of burgers, sandwiches, and limited Tex-Mex plates. And their various chicken wings usually receive favorable reviews. There's also an outdoor patio that's seems best suited for late night drinking. But . . . Parking is limited, the clientele can sometimes be unsavory (corporates and non-corporates alike), and I'm sorry - although I like Jimmy Buffett, I don't want to spend an evening pretending that I am Jimmy Buffett.
