Sapling Days in Austin is a unique fall tradition organized by the Austin nonprofit TreeFolks.
Each fall, the group, with its slogan, "Making Austin Shadier for More Than 20 Years," distributes free saplings to the public (while supplies last).
For Sapling Days 2011, the free saplings are: Excarpment Live Oak and Texas Redbud (see more info here).

Austin Sapling Days - Dates and Locations
The trees are distributed in downtown Austin on multiple dates in October. For 2011, the posted schedule is:
Note: All times (except 10/15) are from noon until the sapling supply runs out.
- October 1, 2011 - N. Lamar @ Whole Earth
- October 7, 2011 - "Downtown along Congress Avenue"
- October 14, 2011 - "Downtown along Congress Avenue"
- October 15, 2011 - Howson Branch Library @ 1:30 p.m
- October 21, 2011 - "Downtown along Congress Avenue"
The event is sponsored by Randalls Supermarkets and the Apache Foundation.
TreeFolks grows the urban forest of Central Texas through tree planting, education and community partnerships. We invite businesses, schools, government, community groups and individuals to join us in creating a healthier environment and enhancing the quality of urban life. Since its inception in 1989, TreeFolks has planted tens of thousands of trees in Austin and Central Texas.
