Sapling Days in Austin is a unique fall tradition organized by the Austin nonprofit TreeFolks .
Each fall, the group, with its slogan, "Making Austin Shadier for More Than 20 Years," distributes free saplings to the public (while supplies last).
For Sapling Days 2012, the free saplings are: Cherry Laurel , Red Mulberry , and Pecan (see more info here ).

TreeFolks grows the urban forest of Central Texas through tree planting, education and community partnerships. We invite businesses, schools, government, community groups and individuals to join us in creating a healthier environment and enhancing the quality of urban life. Since its inception in 1989, TreeFolks has planted tens of thousands of trees in Austin and Central Texas.
