Sapling Days in Austin is a unique fall tradition organized by the Austin nonprofit TreeFolks .

Each fall, the group, with its slogan, "Making Austin Shadier for More Than 20 Years," distributes free saplings to the public (while supplies last).

For Sapling Days 2012, the free saplings are: Cherry Laurel , Red Mulberry , and Pecan (see more info here ).

Austin Sapling Days - Dates and Locations

The trees are distributed in downtown Austin on multiple dates in October. For 2011, the posted schedule is:

  • September 22, 2012 - Burnet Rodeo Grounds (Burnet Kids Day Out>
  • October 10, 2012 - Triangle Farmers Market (3:00 pm)
  • October 15, 2012 - McKinney Falls State Park (Noon)
  • October 20, 2012 - Lady Bird Lake (11:30 am)
  • October 31, 2012 - Triangle Farmers Market (3:00 pm)
  • November 3, 2012 - Downtown Farmers Market (9:00 am)
  • November 10, 2012 - Whole Earth Provision Company - Westgate Shopping Center (Noon)
  • November 17, 2012 - Downtown Farmers Market (9:00 am)
