Texas Book Festival

Austin Events and Festivals

Texas Book Festival
October 16-17, 2010
Texas State Capitol
Admission - Free

Texas Book Festival at the Texas State Capitol The Texas Book Festival, a nationally-recognized book fair typically featuring 200 Texas and national authors, has been an Austin tradition since 1996.

The free weekend festival, spearheaded by former First Lady Laura Bush back when she lived in the Texas Governor's Mansion in the 1990s, draws 40,000 attendees.

It provides a very cool opportunity to celebrate books on a wide variety of ideas across multiple genres, from poetry to politics and everything in between. You can hear authors read from and discuss their works, listen in on other panel discussions, and - since it's Austin - even catch some live music.

Additionally, the festival benefits Texas libraries.

And the event's location has to be one of the best venues of any book festival in the country - the Texas State Capitol.

There will also be children's events and entertainment, and this year the festival has expanded to include events and readings at venues beyond the Capitol (see the author and schedule links below).
